Issue 197
Hello,
As the month of October wraps up I wanted check in with you and share an update on how things are going around here.
My work on the graphic novel continues to be my main priority. Since the publisher hasn’t announced this project I’m keeping tight lipped about the details. I can say that it’s for an existing series, and it will be out next November. I’ll add that I’ve really grown quite fond of this world and love working on this book.
The reboot/glow up of SVSlearn.com is coming together as well. Our focus moving forward is going to be on strengthening the community of artists who have grown around this online school. It’s going to be a game changer for many people.
Lastly, for the rest of the year this newsletter is going to come out a little more frequently, but instead of sharing 5 cool things, I’m going to be sharing one thing for each broadcast. I want to keep up the communication, but save myself a little time and work. We’ll see how that goes!
Oh and one more thing, for those of you not on substack, this newsletter is being sent through their service now, which means each email has a comments section. I love this feature and it’s one of the deciding factors in switching to this platform.
Let me know in the comments which year of Inktober was your favorite!
Enjoy!
15 Years of Inktober
From the Drawings Unit
These are some of my inktober drawings from the last 15 years. A favorite drawing from each year since I created the challenge in 2009.
If you go to my website there’s an archive I put together of ALL the Inktober drawings I’ve done. LINK
I got three days into it this year before I started slipping behind on my freelance work. I had to bow out if I was going to get even close to keeping my deadlines.
I was feeling bad, because Inktober has always been a big month of creative growth for me. As I went through all the drawings I did over the years (Over 400 of them!) I felt an intense wave of gratitude that I’ve had the time available to do this challenge so often. It really has shaped the artist I’ve become. It’s been cool to see how my style and skill has matured over the years.
Hoping that next year I can add another pile of drawings to this ever growing collection.
I’m curious, which year do you like the best?
And again, you can check out all the drawings for each year here: LINK

Weekend reading:
Banana Sioule by Michael Sanlaville
Figured I’d finally try and learn French!
I love how it goes from
Year 1: an apple
Year 15: a civilization
I can't figure out why, but I really like 2010 (man on horse).
