What is Jake’s Desk?

A mostly weekly newsletter about creative curiosities in all their forms, but mostly comics, illustration, art, and the drive to make those things.

As a cartoonist and illustrator (who’s been lucky enough to hit the New York Times Best-Seller list), I spend a lot of time thinking about creativity: where it comes from, how to cultivate it, and what it takes to actually finish the work you care about. This newsletter is where I share those thoughts—along with the coolest, weirdest, or most inspiring things I find while circumnavigating the world wide web.

If you’re someone who loves art, design, storytelling, or just the endless pursuit of making better stuff, then you’re in the right place.

Who is Jake?

I’m Jake Parker, an illustrator and comic artist who has worked with companies like Blue Sky Studios, Bad Robot, Disney, Marvel, and Scholastic. I’ve illustrated over a dozen children’s books, drawn hundreds of pages of comics, and as a serial self-publisher, I’ve independently released fifteen books.

I’m also the founder of Inktober, a month-long drawing challenge that encourages artists around the world to improve their skills through daily practice.

Through my YouTube channel and SVSLearn.com, I share my love for art and storytelling, helping others grow by being deliberate in their creativity, productivity, and purpose.

I live in the Arizona desert with my wife, kids, and a and a super chill Portuguese Water Dog named Walter.

Why subscribe?

Because social media failed you. It’s the worst way to see art or engage with ideas. A newsletter invites you to slow down, remove yourself from algorithmic influence, and participate on your own terms. Each week, you’ll walk away with a fresh perspective and a greater desire to create.
